Mother’s Day Service

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world, and Mother’s Day 2019 occurs on Sunday, May 12, in the United States. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Jarvis would later denounce the holiday’s commercialization and spent the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day traditionally involves presenting moms with flowers, cards, and other gifts.

BBC 5K Walk/Run

We invite you to join us for this powerful and informative occasion that deals with the impact of the COVID-19 health crisis that crippled the world and devastated communities of color. This is an opportunity to hear from the professionals, learn about ways to recover and obtain hope for the hurting. Our team of presenters and facilitators include physicians, counselors and ministers who will educate, equip and empower participants with tools to use as they provide a pathway to healing.

The conference will kick off with the BBC 5K Walk/Run at Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria Virginia at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Early registration opens on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2022 through September 30, 2022, after which the cost for registration increases. Register early, we only have 120 slots. Everyone is welcome to participate in this event in some way, you can sponsor a walker/runner or simply make a donation. All proceeds from the walk will go to the Voices of Black Fairfax initiative. Our goal is to double our 5K distance and raise $10K to help fight the injustices that plague our communities of color.

The virtual sessions will be held Monday, October 17, 2022 and Tuesday, October 18, 2022 via Zoom from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each night. No registration is required and everyone is welcome to participate in these sessions.

This event is promised to have something for everyone who attends. We look forward to seeing you there!
